What we do Poverty Prevention Community Shop & Café What is the Community Shop and Café? The Community Shop is set up like a mini-supermarket and runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, 10am to midday. There are different categories of foods that have different values, and those that are experiencing food insecurities can choose from a range of products up to a predetermined total maximum value. Running alongside is our Community Café, where anyone can come for a drink and a chat. Some mornings there will be other activities going on as well, such as craft sessions, cooking demos, or some opportunities to learn some budgeting skills or update your CV and job search. Everything is completely free of charge. We understand that it takes courage to ask for help but we are here to support, care and advise once you make that brave step. Are you struggling? If you are struggling to make ends meet because of job loss, changes in circumstances, debt or difficulty accessing the benefits system, we can support you through our Jubilee Advice sessions and give you the additional help needed with food through our Community Shop. If you, or someone you know, has accessed one of our Jubilee Debt and Benefit Advice sessions, the adviser may have issued you or the individual with a voucher to access the Community Shop. The voucher means that you would be eligible to come along to the Community Shop. Come in and see us! When and where is the Community Shop & Café? You will find us at Derby City Mission, 10 Normanton Road, Derby DE1 2GW Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings 10am – 12noon. Would you like to support this project?
